The Healers Café

Hi, it's Manon Bolliger (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) and I want to welcome you to the Healers Cafe. I am so excited to be doing this series of interviews and what I'll be doing is, is asking all kinds of healthcare practitioners, doctors, healers of all types, to really share with all of you their experience, why they became healers, what called them what they think about this being a healer thing. Is it, a thing? Who's really healing in this, what they've experienced from their their interaction with clients and patients and what the takeaways and understanding of what the process of healing is all about and the process of life. So that's the essence of what I'm doing. I'm hoping that this will serve also for patients that have issues and are looking for different ways of approaching it. * De-Registered, revoked & retired after 30+ years of practice. Now resourceful & resolved to share with you all the tools to take care of your health & vitality!

In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, RBHT (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) speaks to Anne-Marie's about her journey with Bowen therapy, the different practitioners and techniques she has explored, and the evolution of the modality.

For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/anne-marie-ferguson

Highlights from today's episode include:

Anne-Marie Ferguson  07:50  I believe that the way we think about our health affects our healing, even the belief that we will get better.

Manon Bolliger  09:37  at Bowen College, what I do is I teach not psychology, but I teach how to LISTEN to your body, which means you know, also observing your thoughts and how they interfere or not you know,

Anne-Marie Ferguson  I asked her if I could use add the Bowen therapy technique, and she told me she'd always had hip pain, and I was able to see that the problem stemmed from the TMJ, so I made a few changes there, and around three weeks later, I got a Message from her saying her the pain that she had for years disappeared.

ABOUT:

I was introduced to Bowen therapy at a wedding rehearsal in 2013 on the Gold Coast in Queensland when we lived there for a couple years.  I began a workshop with Robyn Wood who was an instructor with Bowtech. I continued on to receive my diploma and attended many courses trying to understand how this modality worked. I had some great outcomes. My husband and I have worked as missionaries in Mexico for many years. We work with the Tepehuan group. My husband is fluent in their language and so we are often traveling to visit family or churches so have lived very unsettled for a number of years with our 4 children who are now adults. Bowen therapy courses have introduced me to many other therapists who are curious about what works, what doesn’t. I began hearing about the Emmett technique and in 2015 i believe I took my first course with Ross Emmett in Seattle and then began attending several workshops amazed at the releases that we all experienced. In 2017 my husband and I thought we would finish our work in missions so we moved to Abbotsford for just a year when he found a better job back in Melbourne through connections and we moved back to Australia again in. 2018. I studied a one year remedial massage program and worked in a spa. I was also offered a job with a naturopath and would work from home as well. We were there until October 2021 when we lost our jobs due to the craziness of Covid. We then sensed we should volunteer back in Mexico and make ourselves useful. We returned to Chihuahua to train Latins to reach out to their own people and in August of this year we have returned to Canadá for another period and are looking at how we will continue the work in Mexico. Throughout all the moving I always have opportunities to practice Bowen informally.

Core purpose/passion: My mission as a Bowen therapist is to provide a therapy that is valuable and creates a change. Something should always change as a result of the session. The client should either experience reduced pain, less inflammation, more range of movement, a feeling of lightness perhaps or balance.

In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, RBHT (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) speaks to Russell Sturgess, about healing with Bowen through the soul.

For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/russell-sturgess2

Highlights from today's episode include:

Russell Sturgess  that's where our suffering happens, we're actually looking for in wealth and power, in love in success, we're looking for our happiness outside of ourselves, which is bizarre, because our intrinsic self is happiness. Our sole being is that it's in here, it's not out there. And then, once you understand and have grasped the whole notion that our happiness is within

Russell Sturgess  They're having a painful experience. So, what happens is we turn up and we apply this technique, and we try to fix people, and this is going to be one of the hardest things for me to get across to anybody is that you're not fixing anybody. All you're doing is opening windows of opportunity. This is what a Bowen therapist does.

Manon Bolliger  19:30  when you're in connection with another person on the table, we know mechanically some of the impacts that you know that Bowen triggers, like the piezoelectric effect or all of that we know that there's you know, a frequency

ABOUT:

From his teens, Russell demonstrated an understanding of agape (unconditional love) that defied his age. His upbringing saw him channel his passion into complementary health, as well as religion. Russell now serves as a spiritual director, using the path of the Beatitudes as a way to help people sustainably remember to be kind to themselves, to others and to the planet.

Healing is listening, which is being aware.  Ignorance, avoidance and our attachments void our capacity to be aware, resulting in suffering.

Russell specializes in a combination of Bowen Therapy (his interpretation called Fascial Kinetics), Osteopathic Massage, and Reflexology. He brings almost 50 years of healing experience to what he offers.

In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, RBHT, speaks with Dr Romi Fung, ND about tips to reduce the risk of getting dementia.

For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/dr-romi-fung-3

Highlights from today's episode include:

Dr. Romi Fung, ND 10:10

Good point and good question right there. There's a number of factors. And the first thing is how do we absorb the ferritin.

Dr. Romi Fung, ND 12:38

Well, that's digestion again, right there. When you do have your digestion that's impeded. This is what we call gut permeability, or leaky gut.

Manon Bolliger  18:22

I was thinking digestion is so key too, you know, inflammation to oxygenation. Now, elimination, what pathways need to be functioning really well for that?

ABOUT:

Dr. Romi Fung is a naturopathic physician practicing in Richmond, BC, Canada with a special focus in dementia and cognitive health. Dr. Romi works with patients living with cognitive decline and dementia by augmenting their brain's environment. Dr. Romi takes a comprehensive approach in working with his patients, from screening for inflammation, insulin resistance, and imbalanced hormones – all of which contribute significantly to our brain health, to interventions, including lifestyle coaching and clinical nutrition.

Dr. Romi completed his undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Simon Fraser University followed by graduating from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine with a Doctor in Naturopathy. While building his practice, Dr. Romi went on to complete a Master of Science in Aging and Health from Queen’s University and is now pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Aging and Health, also from Queen’s University.

On top of his practice, Dr. Romi is an instructor teaching Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture to future naturopathic physicians and clinic supervisor at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine - Boucher Campus.

In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, RBHT, speaks with Dori Baker about how soulful practices can foster resilience, inclusivity, and mental well-being, while addressing the importance of community, diverse traditions, and daily acts of connection to combat anxiety, depression, and social injustices.

For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/dori-barker

Highlights from today's episode include:

Dori Baker  I like to use the word soulful practices instead of spiritual practices, because spiritual has been so maligned and has so been misused, and that we have such a history of mostly men using their spiritual power and leadership in ways that violate people. But soulfulness is something I think we can all resonate with.

Dori Baker  I like to say the bridges are broken between these practices and the traditions or the places, the institutions that once stewarded them. My friends, where the bridges aren't just broken. Somebody has poured gas and lit a match. You know, the bridges are gone.

Manon Bolliger  And it's like going back into really who we are, our sovereign beings, that we are. And this is where all the power is, is recognizing that. So when you brought up, you know, imposter syndrome, it's like imposter to what we're not even trying to be, something else, just be, be who you are,
