The Healers Café

Hi, it's Manon Bolliger (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) and I want to welcome you to the Healers Cafe. I am so excited to be doing this series of interviews and what I'll be doing is, is asking all kinds of healthcare practitioners, doctors, healers of all types, to really share with all of you their experience, why they became healers, what called them what they think about this being a healer thing. Is it, a thing? Who's really healing in this, what they've experienced from their their interaction with clients and patients and what the takeaways and understanding of what the process of healing is all about and the process of life. So that's the essence of what I'm doing. I'm hoping that this will serve also for patients that have issues and are looking for different ways of approaching it. * De-Registered, revoked & retired after 30+ years of practice. Now resourceful & resolved to share with you all the tools to take care of your health & vitality!

In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, RBHT (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) chats with Dr. Romi, ND, about the preventative measures available for brain health in the prevention of Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/dr-romi-fung-nd2

Highlights from today's episode include:

Dr. Romi Fung, ND

I'm trying to tell everyone else because right now, the evidence, at least in the written literature, it says that about a third of all dementias is preventable. But I believe that that is underestimated. I believe at least 60% If not 90% of dementia can potentially be prevented through a lot of our nutritional means dietary as well as lifestyle.

Dr. Romi Fung, ND

And there's one gene now that's isolated called bace-one, B A C E -1, and by eliciting it, that we actually start making and producing more of the beta amyloid plaque. And there are many things, I'm going to give you one example right now that induces this plaque, the number one I find is something called hypoxia, or lack of oxygen.

Dr. Romi Fung, ND

And iron is what we need to make hemoglobin in our blood. If we don't have enough hemoglobin in our blood, our ability to carry oxygen throughout the body and thus throughout the brain is impacted.

ABOUT DR. ROMI FUNG, ND:

Dr. Romi Fung is a naturopathic physician practicing in Richmond, BC, Canada with a special focus in dementia and cognitive health. Dr. Romi works with patients living with cognitive decline and dementia by augmenting their brain's environment. He believes there is more to dementia than just working primarily with the brain; several metabolic and biochemical factors affecting our brain emerge from the body. Dr. Romi takes a comprehensive approach in working with his patients, from screening for inflammation, insulin resistance, and imbalanced hormones – all of which contribute significantly to our brain health, to interventions, including lifestyle coaching and clinical nutrition.

Dr. Romi completed his undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Simon Fraser University followed by graduating from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine with a Doctor in Naturopathy. While building his practice, Dr. Romi went on to complete a Master of Science in Aging and Health from Queen’s University and is now pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Aging and Health, also from Queen’s University.

On top of his practice, Dr. Romi is an instructor teaching Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture to future naturopathic physicians and clinic supervisor at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine - Boucher Campus.

Highlights from today's episode include:

Dr. Sarah Marshall, ND

That intuition makes a difference for medical doctors and for nurse practitioners and for nurses and that there is actually a role for our heart, I would call it heart centered instincts to play in healing and the care of others.

Dr. Sarah Marshall, ND 29:09

And then did you close the loop? You asked about intuition? I would say that one way of looking at intuition is it is your opportunity to hear the language of the Divine. You know, and that's a whole skill set. I truly believe everyone is intuitive. I think it's a part of our innate human being.

Dr. Sarah Marshall, ND

So, a lot of my intuition and my practice on a regular basis is just guiding me what questions to ask, when and how, and then how to respond to whatever they may be dealing with in that moment. I trust my just instincts and how I respond to them.

For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/riva-preil

Highlights from today's episode include:

Dr Riva Preil 03:29

People don't sit around at the dinner table talking about their bladder issues, their sexual dysfunction, for understandable reasons. But then what happens is people end up suffering in silence for far too long, without knowing that help exists

Dr Riva Preil

So, to whatever degree people feel comfortable talking about these matters, it just helps to D stigmatize it. And the same way a person would get their shoulder fixed or their knee rehabbed if they have issues with those body parts, then the same should be the case with the pelvic floor as well.

Dr Riva Preil

Kegels are fortunately making their way more into pop culture what people know about it, it's being referenced in shows and magazines and people are aware. But what people aren't aware of is that Kegels aren't appropriate for everyone.

Ora Nadrich  04:30

Well, I think that the mindfulness path, if you will, the path of awareness, the path of present moment, awareness is really a very useful path to be on at a time when we never could have anticipated the world changing so radically, as it has over the last three years.

Ora Nadrich

The systems that we believed in the systems that perhaps we trusted, and the systems that we allow to lead us. Those are systems that we now know, cannot make decisions for us based on our own agency, ourselves, and our sovereignty.

Ora Nadrich

Try and give yourself the permission and the time to listen to yourself and that you are worthy of listening to and that you are very capable of making very sound decisions for yourself. You do not need somebody outside of yourself or an authority figure to tell you what's best for you.

Nov 1, 2023

In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, CBHT (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) chats with Janice Litvin about the negative effects of burnout and how to prevent it in the workplace.

For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/Janice-Litvin

Highlights from today's episode include:

Janice Litvin  04:44

But did you know that as early as 2018 66% of American workers were already beginning to suffer from burnout? And of course, that number went up after the pandemic ensued.

Janice Litvin  06:10

So, burnout can also come when you are excited, and you are connected to your bigger purpose. Because some people, myself included, get so enmeshed in their work, they forget that family time and family life is equally as important and exhilarating. And so, people get so passionate about their work, they forget to set boundaries around their work time.

Janice Litvin  09:27

So, interestingly, the true definition of burnout is somebody who was so mentally and emotionally exhausted, that they can't function in the way that they could before they need a major break. If they can get out of bed, they're lucky.

ABOUT JANICE LITVIN:

Janice Litvin is on a mission to help leaders and teams banish burnout in their organizations. She does this through keynotes, workshops and cohort coaching groups.

Her workshops take teams through the journey of uncovering their emotional tangles and then changing the way they react to stress. Then she teaches them how to push back and set healthy boundaries. All of this leads to behavior change, burnout prevention and increased employee retention.

She also teaches managers how to prevent burnout for their teams.

Janice is the president of National Speakers Association of Northern California, and is a member of SHRM, MPI, and ProVisors. For SHRM she is a Recertification Provider and her book, Banish Burnout Toolkit is part of the SHRM Recertification Library.

Janice keeps audiences engaged with stories, humor and audience interaction. For fun she leads Zumba Fitness classes.

Core purpose/passion: I’m passionate about helping people overcome their emotional tangles buried deep inside formed in childhood. My contention is that most people come to work with unresolved emotional baggage, which comes out at inopportune times.
